Came across an entertaining parody of YMCA on youtube (launch video) today made by part of the Mecca Bingo crew and aimed at bringing the bingo-playing public’s attention to the unfair tax situation on the game. It appears that the chancellor, make that new Prime Minister (oh dear), has decided in his wisdom that while the rest of the gambling industry gets tax breaks, the bingo bods pay double what anyone else pays! On the 1st July 2007, the UK smoking ban comes into effect and bingo halls around the country are expecting a noticable knock-on effect. When the ban was originally introduced into Scotland, a large number of traditional Bingo halls closed down through the reduction in trade, although a number were prepared and either reacted with smoking zones or by setting up online bingo sites to revive trade.
